There’s a difference between a sofa that simply fills a room and one that becomes part of everyday life. The kind you sink into after long days, gather around on slow Sundays, and keep for years rather than seasons. For us, where that sofa is made plays a big part in that difference.

At Loom Loft, around 80% of our upholstery and furniture is made here in Britain, with many of our makers based close to home in Lancashire and across the North West. That decision has never been about ticking a marketing box or adding a Union Jack to a label. It comes from believing that well-made furniture still matters, and that the people behind it matter too.

Lancashire’s history has always been tied to craftsmanship, textiles and making things properly. Those roots still shape how we think about furniture today. The skill, knowledge and attention to detail that once filled the mills and workshops of the region still exists in the makers we work with now. When we began building Loom Loft, supporting British manufacturing was never a trend-led decision. It was simply the standard we wanted our furniture to meet.

Why it Matters in Your Home

The difference with British-made upholstery is often something you feel before you even notice it visually. It’s in the weight of the frame, the depth of the seat, the way cushions hold their shape, and the comfort that still feels supportive years later.

Many of the British manufacturers we work with use kiln-dried hardwood frames, premium sprung suspension systems and high-quality foam interiors designed for real daily living. Sofas are built to be lived on, not just looked at.

That commitment to quality is also reflected in our minimum 10-year frame guarantee across all our sofa collections, offering added reassurance that the furniture you choose is built with longevity in mind. It’s confidence rooted in craftsmanship, materials and construction designed to support everyday life for years to come.

It also means greater care and consistency throughout the making process. Most of our upholstery is made to order, allowing you to choose the size, fabric and configuration that genuinely suits your home, rather than settling for something mass-produced and sitting in a warehouse.

And when furniture is made closer to home, there’s accountability behind it too. We know the people making many of our collections. We’ve visited the workshops, seen the craftsmanship firsthand and built relationships with the makers behind the pieces sitting in our showrooms.

““Where a sofa is made shapes far more than the label. It shapes the comfort you feel, the craftsmanship behind it, and the skilled hands that built it.”.”

Supporting Skills Worth Keeping

Every British-made sofa represents far more than furniture alone. Behind it are upholsterers, frame makers, cutters, machinists and craftspeople whose skills have often been developed over decades.

Choosing British manufacturing helps keep those workshops alive and those skills within the regions that built them. Once craftsmanship disappears from an area, it rarely returns easily. Supporting British makers isn’t about nostalgia, it’s about protecting industries, livelihoods and standards that still deserve a place in modern homes.

Proud Supporters of British Manufacturing

As proud members of the British Furniture Association, we’re part of a wider industry committed to protecting the future of British furniture manufacturing and upholding high standards across craftsmanship, quality and responsible production. It’s an organisation that champions the makers, upholsterers and skilled workshops still producing furniture properly here in the UK, values that closely reflect our own approach at Loom Loft. Supporting British manufacturing isn’t simply about where furniture is made; it’s about investing in skills, heritage and long-term quality that genuinely stand the test of time.

What 'Made in Britain' Means to Us

We’re careful about the language we use because we believe customers deserve honesty.

For us, “Made in Britain” means the furniture is upholstered, assembled and finished here in the UK by manufacturers we know and trust. The craftsmanship, tailoring and final build all happen within British workshops, creating pieces designed for real homes and everyday living.

Of course, not every piece in our collection is British-made. Some designs, materials and specialist finishes are sourced from elsewhere in Europe, particularly Italy, where certain craftsmanship traditions are equally exceptional. But we’ll always be transparent about that because provenance matters just as much as design.

Feel the Difference for Yourself

The easiest way to understand the difference is to experience it in person. Sit on a thoughtfully made British sofa and you notice the details almost immediately, the support beneath the cushions, the balance of softness and structure, the way the fabric feels tailored rather than stretched.

Our showrooms are designed to help you slow down, explore properly and find furniture that feels right for your home and your life. And because our team know the collections inside out, we’ll always happily talk you through how and where pieces are made, helping you choose something that feels considered for years to come.
