Cupboards

A cupboard earns its place quietly, tucking away everything a busy home collects and leaving a hallway, kitchen or living room feeling calmer and more considered. At Loom Loft, you'll find freestanding cupboards in solid wood, from compact hall cabinets and shoe storage through to generous larder units built for a working kitchen. Each one is chosen for its craftsmanship and character, so it looks every bit as good as it works.

Choosing the right cupboard for the room
Where the cupboard is going tends to decide its shape. Hallways suit shallower designs that hold coats, keys and shoes without narrowing the walkway, which is where a hall cabinet or shoe cupboard comes into its own. Kitchens and utility rooms call for something taller and deeper, with shelving behind closed doors for dry goods and appliances.

As a general guide, it's worth allowing a little breathing space either side of the piece and checking that doors and drawers open fully without meeting a wall or radiator. A cupboard that fits its spot properly disappears into the room, which is exactly what you want from it.

Wood, finish and character
Almost every cupboard in the range is solid wood, and that shows in the detail: warm, open grain on the rustic pieces, smoother and darker tones on the more contemporary designs, and painted finishes where you want the cupboard to sit back rather than stand out. Ranges such as Bardon and Rescate lean into handcrafted character, while Daventry, the Hapton range and the Liston range feel quieter and more classic.

Because the finishes are drawn from a handful of house ranges, a cupboard will usually coordinate with a matching sideboard or display cabinet if you want the whole room to read as one thought. Browsing furniture by collection is the quickest way to see which pieces belong together.

Larder units and kitchen storage
A larder unit is one of the most useful pieces you can add to a kitchen that has run out of cupboard space. Full-height with adjustable shelving behind double doors, it takes on the bulk of dry storage and small appliances, and it does it as a freestanding piece so there's no fitting involved.

They work particularly well in an open-plan kitchen-diner, where a piece of proper furniture reads far more warmly than another run of fitted units. If you're planning a whole room, our living room and dining room ideas show how storage sits alongside the rest of the scheme. Open shelving is worth a look too, over on bookcases and shelves.
