A rug is the quickest way to make a room feel finished, softening the floor underfoot and drawing the furniture into one arrangement. At Loom Loft, our rugs span deep pile and shaggy textures, subtle abstracts and borders, and lustrous finishes that catch the light, in sizes from small accent pieces through to extra large designs for an open-plan room. Runners and circular options are here too, for hallways and awkward corners.

Choosing the right size
Size is the decision that makes or breaks a rug, and going slightly larger is almost always the better call. In a living room, the rug ideally sits under the front legs of the sofa and any chairs, which pulls the seating into a group; 160x230cm and 200x290cm are the sizes that tend to do this comfortably in a typical UK room.

Smaller sizes have their own jobs. Around 80x150cm or 120x170cm works as an accent in front of a fireplace or beside a bed, while runners such as 67x230cm and 67x330cm suit hallways and the side of a kitchen island. At the other end, designs up to 240x340cm and 300x400cm are made for open-plan spaces where a smaller rug would simply float.

Texture, pile and finish
Pile height changes how a rug feels and how it wears. Deep pile and shaggy designs, including Mirage, Cleo and Twilight, are the ones to choose for real softness underfoot in a bedroom or a snug. Heatset Wilton constructions such as Galleria, Mehari and Da Vinci offer a shorter, denser surface with a defined pattern, which suits busier rooms and sits more easily under furniture.

Elsewhere in the collection, Kuza is velvety and richly textured across abstract, border and portrait designs, Aurora brings a metallic sheen, and Stellar and Seville use lustre and high-low texture to add depth to a plain scheme. Several ranges are made with easy-clean yarns, which is worth knowing if the room sees a lot of traffic.

Shape, colour and putting it all together
Rectangular rugs are the default for a reason, following the lines of most rooms and seating arrangements. Round designs are a lovely counterpoint under a round dining table, in a bay window or in a square room that needs its corners softened, and square designs suit a compact seating group.

For colour, the collection runs from calm neutrals in beige, cream, grey and taupe through to teal, mustard, terracotta, navy and green, so there's scope to either ground a bold room or lift a quiet one. Our rug styling guide walks through placement and pairing in more detail, and living room furniture covers the tables that sit on top. To match a rug to upholstery, fabric sofas is a good starting point.
