Choosing a desk for a room that isn't an office
Most homes don't have a dedicated study, so the desk has to earn its place in a room with another job. A slimmer writing desk works well against a wall in a bedroom or on a landing, while a design with drawers keeps paperwork and chargers out of sight in a shared living space.
As a general guide, a desk top at around 75cm from the floor suits most people and most chairs, and allowing a little space behind for cables makes everyday use easier. Building a corner that works
A desk on its own is rarely enough. A slim bookcase beside it turns a corner into a proper working space, and a chest of drawers nearby handles files and stationery without a filing cabinet in sight.
