The wings are not just decoration. Set either side of a tall back, they draw the chair around your shoulders, which makes it a comfortable place to read for an hour and a genuinely cosy seat beside a fire or a draughty sash window. The upright posture suits anyone who prefers to sit properly rather than recline, and the tall silhouette gives a room useful height where the rest of the furniture sits low.
