Sofas & Chairs

A sofa that has spent a few months on a showroom floor is still a sofa built to last decades, which is what makes clearance such a sensible place to start. Here you'll find ex-display corner groups, chaise sofas, recliners, armchairs and complete bundles at reduced prices. Every piece is a one-off rather than a stock line, with White Glove delivery available.

Bundles and single pieces

Clearance seating comes in two forms. Bundles group several pieces from the same range in the same cover, typically a large sofa with a cuddler, an armchair or a footstool, and they are priced as a set. Because everything was ordered together for display, the covers match exactly, which is difficult to guarantee when buying pieces separately at different times.

Single pieces cover the rest, from snugglers and loveseats through to powered and manual recliners, swivel chairs and accent chairs. If you are furnishing a whole room, a bundle usually works out better value. If you are filling a gap or replacing one tired chair, a single piece is the simpler choice.

What ex-display actually means

Ex-display pieces have been sat on in a showroom, which is exactly why they are reduced. Frames, springs and fillings are unchanged, and our frame guarantee applies as it would to a new order. What varies is the cover, since a piece that has been on the floor may show light settling in the cushions, so it is always worth asking the showroom team about the condition of a specific item before you commit.

The other difference is that there is nothing to specify. The cover, the size and the handing of a corner group are already fixed, so a left hand facing chaise will stay left hand facing. That is worth checking against your room layout early, because it cannot be changed.

Measuring before you buy

Clearance pieces tend to be delivered sooner than made-to-order ones, so there is less time to discover an access problem. Measuring the room, the doorways, any hallway turns and the stairwell before ordering is the single most useful thing you can do, particularly for corner groups and XL sofas, which are the largest items here.

If you are unsure whether a piece will fit, our sofa measuring guide walks through the checks in order, and our corner sofa guide covers how the different corner shapes work in a room.

If nothing here fits

Clearance stock changes constantly and the choice is narrower by design, so it is worth knowing what else is available. Pieces that are already made and ready to deliver, rather than reduced, sit on our in stock sofas page, and our Fast Track sofas come in a focused choice of covers on a short lead time.

For the full range with every cover and size open to you, browse corner sofas, 3 seater sofas and armchairs. Several ranges that appear here regularly are available new in full, including the Bethie range and the Cartmel range. Other clearance departments are worth a look too, at clearance dining and clearance occasional.
