Lamp table, side table or sofa table
The names overlap, and the difference is mostly about height and where the piece goes. A lamp table is usually a little taller, sized so a lamp shade sits above the arm of a chair and casts light where you're reading. A side or end table tends to be lower and squarer, designed to sit against the arm of a sofa for a mug and a book.

Sofa tables are the slimmest of the group, made to tuck close to a sofa or slide partly beneath it, which makes them ideal where floor space is short.
