Nest Tables
Two tables, three tables, or a nesting coffee table
A nest of two is the most flexible everyday choice, giving you a main surface with a second table to pull out when it's needed. Sion, Porter, Sunburst, Stanwick and Argan all offer two table designs, and they work as well beside a chair as they do in front of a sofa.
A nest of three, such as the one in the Hapton range, comes into its own when you entertain, spreading out so everyone has somewhere within reach and stacking back down afterwards. Nesting coffee tables take a different approach again: Idol's large and small nesting tables and Montrose's coffee table nest layer at different heights to create one sculptural centrepiece rather than a set of matching tiers.
Where they earn their keep
Small rooms are the obvious case, and a nest gives you the surface of two or three tables with the footprint of one. That makes it a strong alternative to a full coffee table in a snug, a flat or a room where the floor needs to stay clear.
They're just as useful in a larger open-plan space, where the smaller tables can travel to wherever people have settled. The Sion range includes a hex shelf nest, the most decorative of the group, working as much for display as for drinks. Our small space ideas show flexible pieces in context, lamp and side tables covers the fixed alternative, and furniture by collection shows which ranges match.
