Finding the right size
Sideboards here are grouped as small, narrow, wide and large, which makes the choice more straightforward than it first appears. Small and narrow designs are the ones to look at for a hallway, a chimney breast alcove or a compact dining room, where depth matters as much as width. Wide and large sideboards suit a long wall and give you the surface for lamps, serving dishes or a run of framed pictures above.
As a general guide, measuring the wall first and leaving a little space at either end keeps the piece looking intentional rather than wedged in. It's also worth checking drawer and door clearance, particularly if the sideboard is going opposite a dining table where chairs need to pull out.
Wood and finish options
The collection is led by solid wood, with real variety in tone. Cuban comes in mango and sheesham, the Eclipse range in rustic oak and fumed oak, and Canyon in rustic oak or a weathered oak and peppercorn combination. Newhaven works in weathered antique pine with a subtly raised grain, and a small number of designs pair timber with stone tops for a cooler, more contemporary feel.
Metal detailing adds another option again: Porter is available in stainless steel or black powder coated, and Ingot sets its timber against a peppercorn frame. If you'd like the sideboard to coordinate with other pieces, furniture by collection groups everything by range.
Storage layouts, from drawers to wine racks
Think about what's actually going inside. Cupboard doors suit bulkier items such as serving platters and vases, drawers are better for cutlery, linen and everything that would otherwise get lost at the back of a shelf, and most sideboards here combine the two. Argan, for example, is available as a two door or three door design depending on how much you need to hide away.
